Steel Skarecrow is a group of guys that have a lot of fun playing music at the highest level. First formed in 2017, the band has completed three albums of original music that combine all the musical experience gained playing and listening to music over the years. Steel Skarecrow combines nineties country and southern soul with a modern feel to produce a unique sound, while maintaining their country roots. Each song tells a story, with top notch musicianship and three part harmonies. The bands first two singles climbed into the top 70 on the Texas charts, with the third single to be released in November 2022. The band just completed its third album in October 2022. The band has recently performed with Tracy Lawrence, the Bellamy Brothers, Cody Canada, Eli Young, and Braxton Keith from Texas. Steel Skarecrow has been signed by CDX records in Nashville. The foundation of the band is nineties country, however you will hear modern country, red dirt, classic country, and maybe even a little western swing at every Steel Skarecrow show. Steel Skarecrow shows are professional, upbeat, high energy, and fun! We love to interact with the audience, take requests, get to know people. Every cover song played at a Steel Skarecrow show will be recognized by most, if not all, of the audience, one they can sing along with, and all of them are danceable.
Who are the members?
Kurt Shobe, singer/songwriter has performed across the Midwest, including Nashville, Tennessee and Branson, Missouri, and has shared the stage with stars such as Ricky Skaggs, The Bellamy Brothers, Restless Heart, John Anderson, Sawyer Brown, Patty Loveless, Shotgun Red, The Girls Next Door, Tom T Hall, and numerous others. He has been writing music for many years, and received airplay for his original songs, including “Girl Like That”, “Sweetest Thing I’ve Ever Seen, “Hello Sweetheart”, and “In My Eyes”. Kurt wrote and provides vocals, lead, and rhythm guitar for the songs on Steel Skarecrow’s latest album. The first two singles from this album, “Chasin’ the Sunset” and “Slippin’ Sideways, have both made the top 70 on the Texas regional radio chart.
Kristopher Howell, Lead and harmony vocals/bass guitar, has been playing music for many years, working with names like Bryson Michaels and many others. When not working with Steel Skarecrow, Kris is in a barbershop quartet. His knowledge of music and his ability to sing lead vocals, and just about any harmony vocal line, makes him an indispensable member of the band, and his solid bass lines provide the foundation for the band’s music.
Rollin Schmidt, Steel guitar/fiddle/acoustic guitar, is the finest overall musician in the area. He has also been playing music for many years, and has worked in just about every genre of music from bluegrass to country, and even some rock’n’roll.
Mark Clemmons, Lead and harmony vocals/drums, is also a highly experience musician, and worked with Aaron Woods on his first album. He is also a songwriter, and his songs will be featured on the third Steel Skarecrow album slated to be released in the fall. His solid drumming and harmony vocals allow Steel Skarecrow to produce its signature sound with three part harmonies.
